SOS dry skin: how to treat it?

Many people present, especially at this time, very dry skin on both face and body. The skin therefore appears rough and cracked, with a tendency to flaking.

There are treatments that can be carried out in the surgery, but the best treatment for this type of problem is improved skincare at home, with products suitable for dry and sensitive skin, as we see below.

What is the cause of dry skin?

Dry skin is a genetic condition, although there may be certain factors that can lead to loss of skin moisture, even in those who do not habitually suffer from this problem!

Skin ageing progressively leads to a reduction in the reserves of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, the three molecules essential for maintaining skin firmness, elasticity and hydration.
Skin hydration also depends on the good condition of the hydrolipidic film, which acts as a protective barrier against external aggressions (wind, cold, detergents and aggressive chemicals) and helps retain water in the skin, slowing down its evaporation. In winter, low temperatures, wind and other atmospheric agents can damage this barrier and cause increased dryness and skin redness.
Washing the face even with water too often can make the dryness even worse.

What can we do?

  • Follow a skincare routine specific to our skin: at our centre we perform personalised consultations and a skin analysis in order to recommend the best skin care products.
  • Use specific cosmetics for dry skin: serums based on hyaluronic acid to moisturise the skin, moisturising face masks, face creams with ceramides, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C to maintain a good hydrolipidic film... it is important to avoid the use of alpha and beta hydroxy acids!
  • Follow a balanced diet, with foods rich in omega 3 and omega 6, and drink plenty of water.
  • Aesthetic treatments: some treatments are specific for regenerating the skin and stimulating collagen production, such as our Renew&Glow Protocol, which is non-invasive, or biorevititalisation (micro-injections of non-filling hyaluronic acid), a mini-injective treatment.

Before deciding which products and treatments are right for you, you should have a consultation at our centre in Lugano!
