4 signs that your collagen stores are starting to decline
Collagen is a protein naturally produced by our body that is essential for the structural and elastic support of all connective tissues. In the skin, it is abundant in the layer called the dermis and thanks to collagen, the skin maintains its elasticity, appearing firm and compact both to the eye and to the touch.
From around the age of 25 this protein starts to be produced in smaller quantities by our bodies, and the preconditions for skin ageing already begin. And this is usually most noticeable on the face.
The main signs that appear on this area when collagen production decreases are:
More visible naso-labial wrinkles: they run from the nostrils to the sides of the mouth and begin to be visible as early as 30 years of age
Wrinkled eyelids: an area with very thin skin that tends to 'wrinkle' over time
Duller, duller skin: the skin tone tends to turn grey, losing its radiance due to the decrease in collagen and elastin
"Sad mouth" falling at the sides: these wrinkles are also called "marionette wrinkles", they form at the sides of the mouth with two lines directed towards the chin and give the face a sad, tired and dull expression
How to counteract these imperfections?
When possible, preventing collagen depletion and consequent skin ageing can be done by slowing down this process, e.g. with biorevititalising injections and the use of anti-oxidant products containing Vitamin C or ferulic acid. If, on the other hand, the signs of collagen loss are already evident, they can be treated with non-invasive technologies such as non-surgical lifting, or minimally invasive methods such as hyaluronic acid fillers or polylactic acid injections.
The best way to intervene early on skin ageing related to collagen loss is to act with preventive biostimulation measures when the signs of ageing are not yet so evident.
