Why our weight can change by up to 1kg from one day to the next

Monitoring one's weight is a good habit, but only as long as this monitoring is not done too often, turning the scale into an enemy instead of an ally in weight loss.

It must have happened to you at least once when you weighed yourself and realised that your weight had changed from one day to the next, increasing by up to 1 kg, although your localised fat had remained unchanged. You should not be alarmed, everything is normal and we would like to explain why.

These weight variations can depend on 3 main factors:

  1. Changes in liquids, e.g. if we eat foods that are too salty, too sweet or consume alcohol, these retain a lot of liquids, which implies weight, and so we may see an increase on the scales
  2. If we have not eaten carbohydrates for a few days or are on a low-carb diet, our glucose reserves diminish and so as soon as we consume sugars, they are retained by the body, which perceives their deficiency, causing a slight increase in weight.
  3. For hormonal causes, such as during the menstrual cycle, since with the lowering of progesterone levels the body retains much more fluid

Furthermore, to reshape the body it is not only essential to monitor weight, but also to consider the decrease in localised fat. So we should not worry too much if we notice an increase or decrease in weight within a day, it is normal and can happen to anyone!

Body remodelling is one of the areas in which the Samsara Medical Centre specialises, with treatments and technologies that act in synergy to reduce this blemish in various areas. If you are interested in learning more about our Lipo-lytic Protocol for reshaping the body and reducing localised fat, we will be happy to provide you with all the necessary information at our medical beauty centre in Lugano.
