7 myths about hair: which are true and which are not?

When it comes to hair, there are many doubts and questions about this topic, perhaps because each of us, from 'hearsay' or 'because I was told so', is convinced that we already know how to solve our problem.

We decided to select some of the most common hair questions and finally tell you whether they are true or false!

  1. Cutting hair strengthens it: FALSE, it is useless to cut hair if the aim is to strengthen it, the bulb is insensitive to cutting and therefore this will only make it visibly more beautiful because you will get rid of the ends, which are brittle and dry, but you will not have 'stronger' hair.
  1. Washing hair every day makes it weaker: FALSE, the frequency of washing depends on personal factors such as oily skin or sweating, and it is more harmful to keep hair greasy than to wash it frequently.
  1. It is possible to stop hair loss completely: FALSE, a woman's hair lives about 4/6 years and when it falls out it is replaced by a new one.
  1. There are times of the year when hair loss increases: TRUE, the period when the most hair is lost corresponds to the end of summer (August and September to be precise), this process lasts a few weeks and then stops spontaneously.
  1. Local treatments such as masks and keratin help strengthen the hair: TRUE, on an aesthetic level, they give brightness, firmness, softness, but they do not act on the bulb and do not increase the longevity of a hair.
  1. It is possible to increase the number and thickness of hair: FALSE, we are born with a number and type of hair which we cannot change except surgically by transplantation.
  1. If you pluck one white hair, two more will grow: FALSE, it is a natural ageing process and there is nothing to make it worse, let alone pluck hair.

We at Samsara also have a passion for hair. In fact, our centre in Lugano, Ticino, also treats hair with PRP, a natural and effective method for curing certain forms of alopecia, but also used to strengthen hair by stimulating it directly from its roots.
