How to speed up your metabolism to lose weight as you get older
Many people, as they get older, find it more difficult to lose weight.
But why does the metabolism start to change after the age of 30? Why do we find it harder to lose weight?
Usually the main causes are:
- our body reduces its ability to metabolise fat and develop lean mass (muscle).
- Hormone levels change: for example, during the menopause there is a sharp drop in oestrogen, which causes weight gain and bloating
- Sedentary lifestyle can aggravate the slowing of the metabolism
Tips to reactivate the metabolism and promote weight loss.
First of all, it is necessary to distribute the consumption of nutrients throughout the day and not accumulate them in a single meal, so as to avoid a shortage or excess of protein or carbohydrates. Furthermore, it is important to stay active by practising sports that develop lean mass, i.e. metabolically active mass. This means strengthening muscles, and not doing exercises to burn fat. Some herbs help the metabolic process in a natural way by taking them in supplements, including guarana and green tea, which help drain fluids and reduce inflammation, or vitamins B6 and B12, which reduce tiredness and fatigue, or Vitamin E, an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, very useful in the slimming process. Glutathione is also a powerful antioxidant that protects the liver, the organ responsible for eliminating waste.
There are also certain foods to introduce into one's dietary routine that promote metabolism, especially during the menopause, such as:
- Apple vinegar, improves digestion, excellent alternative to salad dressing, in fact it helps improve glycaemic sensitivity and prevents the next meal, if rich in carbohydrates, from causing blood sugar spikes that can turn into fat.
- psyllium tea, which helps reduce intestinal bloating, inflammation and sugar and cholesterol levels
- Sweet potato juice, which contains a lot of fibre, is made by combining a potato with two stalks of parsley, some lemon juice and plain or coconut water for a booster of fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Finally, it must be recognised that a certain type of fat, namely localised fat, cannot be eliminated even with diets and training. How can we act on it?
With specific body remodelling treatments performed in the studio.
Among these, at Samsara Medical Centre we use Cryolipolysis, a technology that relies on cold therapy to melt fat deposits, or Lipocel, a non-invasive and painless treatment based on high-energy focused ultrasound (Hifu) technology, and many more, in synergistic combination with each other and in a completely customised way according to the case.
