3 allies against skin blemishes

Hyperpigmentations (dark spots on the skin of various kinds) are among the most common skin blemishes and some of them occur more frequently in women with an olive complexion.

Skin spots can form for several reasons:

  • melasma, the causes of which are not yet known, but there is often a predisposition. It seems to be more frequent in particular hormonal situations (taking the oestrogen pill, pregnancy)
  • post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, a spot that remains after healing of various inflammatory processes (burns, acne, abrasions, etc.)
  • skin ageing, especially as an effect of sun exposure

There is no single solution for treating these blemishes, and the treatment protocol may vary depending on the type of blemish, the patient's skin and many other factors.

However, there are 3 allies that we have selected in the treatment of dark spots on the skin, which are:

Tranexamic acid: this is an anti-haemorrhagic drug used in medicine since the 1980s and its action in the case of melasma appears to reduce inflammation and the resulting pigmentation typical of melasmas that appear in areas rich in capillaries.

Protection from blue light: also known as 'high-energy visible light', this is the part of visible light considered to be the most harmful and is emitted in particular by electronic devices such as smartphones, computers, TVs... Prolonged exposure to this type of light encourages the process of photo-ageing and worsens the appearance of spots, so it is important to use specific protection or reduce the emission of this particular type of light by adjusting the settings of the electronic device in use (there are special settings for removing blue light).

Vitamins: especially vitamins A, C and E have strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that help reduce the formation of spots.

At our centre we carry out numerous treatments for blemishes including laser, for darker and more defined spots, Dermamelan, a peeling treatment for melasma ideal in the case of diffuse spots on the skin, and vitamin-based biorevititalisers for an antioxidant booster effect.

Each treatment is tailored to the individual case, so we recommend a no-obligation consultation to decide together which treatment is best for you!
