Skin ageing: how to combat it
Skin ageing is a natural process that occurs gradually and on a cellular level actually starts from around the age of 25.
At this stage of life, we are obviously still in the 'prevention' phase of ageing, as the skin is at the beginning of the path that will gradually lead it to see its own collagen production decline. As a consequence, the skin starts to become less firm, loses tone and the first wrinkles (especially expression lines) form.
Among the main accelerators of this process are:
- smoking;
- excessive alcohol consumption;
- excessive and unprotected sun exposure smog.
Take smoking as an example: we know that the best way to avoid its consequences would be to stop smoking. But those who smoke also know that it is not so easy to quit this vice either, as it is a real nicotine addiction.
However, it is possible to act on the free radicals released by cigarettes, counteracting them through a comprehensive antioxidant action.
By this we mean the intake of antioxidant supplements containing Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Glutathione, Melatonin... to act profoundly on the ageing mechanisms ('oxidation') induced by smoking. The use of specific cosmetic products containing e.g. Vitamin C, Retinol and Ferulic Acid is also recommended. Finally, in some cases it is also necessary to resort to local treatments, taking advantage of the benefits provided by the most modern methods of aesthetic medicine.
At Samsara Medical Centre we recommend regular biorevititalisation sessions for the face and neck to improve skin tone, stimulate collagen production and make the skin more radiant and elastic. This applies to younger skin. In synergy (or alternatively, depending on the case), non-invasive treatments such as microneedling and radiofrequency can be combined.
For more mature skin, on the other hand, a consultation is necessary to establish the degree of skin ageing, so that the most suitable course can be proposed. Samsara offers a wide choice, such as non-surgical lifting, laser, etc.
If you would like more information on the treatment, please do not hesitate to contact our Lugano centre!
